In October 2015 we adopted The Gate, she was a bit of a mess but we fell in love with her, even with the chipped paint, tired interior and overgrown garden.
On a budget of not a lot, with favours from friends, a few very talented individuals and some crazy ideas, our cosy little village pub was beginning to have a garden to be proud of.
After many man hours, blood, sweat, tears, recycled, upcycled, borrowed and made, we could finally have a pint and toast to the most beautiful and magical beer garden you have ever seen.
Don't believe us...?
Look at our journey below or better still pop over and enjoy a local cask ale in our beer garden.
Spring 2016 was spent reinventing the garden, we used old pallets, a broken shed and lots of second hand bits and bobs.
We needed more seating, unconventional outdoor dining, with bunting, circus lighting, mirrors, flowers and grand chandeliers to make this vision come alive.
Jamie West our landlord is everyone's favourite drinking partner, he's also a wonderful family man, booze connoisseur and secretly, I think, a bearded rum drinking pirate.
It was no surprise that in this great plan of his, a Rum Shack was needed, for bottled beer, spirits and fabulous cocktails.
Not just any old Rum Shack, this one would be rustic and weathered like the ones on beach fronts he'd described on his worldly beer adventures.
On sunny Sunday's we have a bouncy castle for the mini peeps, but with two resident princesses and so many local families visiting us everyday we needed a bigger attraction to entertain these little monsters.
The lovely and wonderfully talented Sarah created our mud kitchen, sand pit and climbing frame! It's insanely cool.
Our manager Brooke is horse mad, her favourite customers are the hooved ones. All furry friends are welcome here at The Gate, from small fluffy ones to ones you can ride.
We love hosting a party, every bank holiday we open up the garden with the biggest BBQ feast in Bricket Wood, table tennis battles, beer pong and giant garden games.
From live music to Alice's in Wonderland Tea Parties, Christenings and special birthdays, weddings, wakes and leavings do's our trees have seen it all, even summer yoga classes.
The most magically event in our garden will always be the Wedding Reception, blushing bride, gypsy flowers and rustic tables, suits and bow ties with matching shiny shoes. The first dance on the patio and the beginnings of their, happily ever after starts in our pretty little Gate Garden.
Jamie West, winner of The Best Family Pub Award 2015 & 2017 would like to introduce you to their new adventure,
Our cosy little Gate is now an award winning pub. Winner of 2016 Hospitality Social Media Awards.
