Sam & Garry welcome you to The Gate! We like to think of our pub as a pleasant, friendly place where friends meet friends, locals and strangers mix, but most of all where everyone feels comfortable. But don't take our word for it, come and see for yourself.
In the winter there is a warming open fire and the darts team play every Thursday, in the summer − a spacious garden(where well behaved kids and animals welcome) and plenty of parking.
The Gate has been a freehold pub since 1850 (we think) when a row of cottages was demolished to make way for the local railway. The Gate was at the end of the row and so named because it was 'The Gate' way to common. The earliest picture we have is circa 1912 with Elizabeth Bennett in front looking very Victorian. Later in 2005 Charles Wells purchased it and we moved in the following way.
Good food is served daily, bookings normally required for 'The Sunday Roast' and other functions are catered for. For the smokers amongst you we have covered heated smoking areas. In the summer there is a bouncy castle and room to play for the children, barbeques and entertainment. So if want to feel welcome - come and give us a try. |
